Unique Minds, an AI startup for special people.

We aim to change the world for every person with intellectual disabilities, and their caretakers, using generative AI

What’s a Prosthetic Intelligence?

In the same way that an artificial limb transforms physical disability, artificial intelligence can unlock the full potential for people with intellectual disabilities.

Prosthetic Intelligence is AI tailored to the needs and abilities of a unique mind. Its mission is to:

  1. Learn from parents, relieving their burden and instilling hope.

  2. Empower educators, adapting their efforts for greater effectiveness.

  3. Support disabled individuals, enabling them to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

AI for those who NEED it most!

  • Over 200 million people with intellectual disabilities face challenges in a world not designed for their unique needs. Existing solutions are limited, often relying on human intelligence for assistance, which is costly and in short supply due to societal discomfort around those who think or act differently. The CDC reports the difficulty of finding healthcare providers trained and willing to work with intellectually disabled individuals. These difficulties further restrict independence and life satisfaction.

For many, fulfillment can be as simple as controlling their music, making friends, or holding a job. Fortunately, in our modern era, we have the opportunity to use artificial intelligence to bridge the gap when human assistance is scarce. Let's harness AI to provide essential aid to those in genuine need."

  • While both children and adults grapple with intellectual disabilities, we are initially concentrating our efforts on children for three primary reasons:

    1. Children are highly teachable and can reap lifelong benefits from Prosthetic Intelligence.

    2. Children typically receive support from parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals who are familiar with the child's strengths and challenges. They can assist in training the AI and guide the child in integrating Prosthetic Intelligence into their lives.

    3. By aiding children with intellectual disabilities, we can also alleviate the burdens carried by parents, teachers, and loved ones, rekindling hope for possibilities long abandoned.

  • As you experience the transformative capabilities of Prosthetic Intelligence in adapting to the needs of a disabled person, you may begin to realize how this same technology can adapt between you and a family member, or between an employee and a spouse, a teacher and all students. You may start to ask, 'What about me? I may not be intellectually disabled, but I could use some assistance.

If you do, you're not alone. We understand that the power of this technology can be harnessed to bridge the gap between any two individuals who may think or function differently, and when you think about it, that includes all of us. We will eventually extend our reach to help everyone, but let's start by assisting those who need it the most.

One solution for many challenges

There are numerous ways and variations in which intellectual disabilities present challenges for both the disabled person and their caregivers. This is why there are numerous different programs, groups, and products, each designed to address specific issues. A truly "intelligent" solution would adapt to many challenges in various situations. We believe that Prosthetic Intelligence can assist individuals with disabilities and their caregivers in at least eight challenging categories, which include:

  1. Communication

  2. Social skills

  3. Emotional control

  4. Learning

  5. Engagement

  6. Memory

  7. Executive function

  8. Practical skills

If you or someone you know has a disabled loved one who struggles with one of these challenges, we encourage you to explore further how Prosthetic Intelligence can provide greater hope in caregiving.

Accessibility for AI

In addition to our easy-to-use app, our Prosthetic Intelligence connects with a variety of device options to meet the intellectual and physical needs for access to AI. Whether it's a microphone in a stuffed animal to listen to a need, open-ear headphones for private assistance, or smart glasses for vision, Prosthetic Intelligence can be tailored to communicate with any unique mind in the way they perceive the world.
